In year 2 we’ve been learning about colour. You could think of it as an extended experiment in colour therapy. We’ve looked at colours and listened to colours and danced to colours. In fact, we are experts, because if you ask any year 2 what colour is angry or calm or radiant, they’ll let you know and possibly throw in a dance to complement it. Mrs Collison has been working this term on a performance art project in years 3 and 4. The children learned about the philosophy and conceptual art of Guy DeBord! If you haven’t met Guy DeBord yet, then you should look him up. He was a champion of the situationist movement, challenging the ordinary and the everyday. Here at Ridgefield (being brave explorers and great thinkers!) we’re never happy with the expected and we love to challenge and stimulate our children. Conceptual and situationist art is ideal! So by way of introduction, have you ever wondered why we do the things the way we do? How do you walk to school and what makes it normal or….not?

All of Ridgefield has had the fantastic opportunity to ring the bell on Jim Ede’s house at Kettles yard, exploring his home and where he created his fantastic art collection which still resides at Kettles yard today.
