Reception

Welcome to Reception

Reception Reception is taught by Mrs J. Campbell, assisted by Mrs S. Wick.  Mrs Newbury teaches Reception on a Tuesday morning.

Reception Curriculum

Most of our learning is done through play with focused input by the teacher at the whole class and small group level. We aim to build strong foundations for the children to start their formal education in year one. We strive to make this first experience of school a positive and rewarding one, instilling a love of learning that the children will carry onwards throughout their education.

Our curriculum is broken down into 6 areas of learning:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development,

Communication, Language and Literacy,

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy,

Knowledge and Understanding of the World,

Physical Development, and

Creative development

By the end of the year we hope the children will have gained skills and confidence in each of these areas.

Routines

  • We do PE twice a week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and all children need to have PE kit (T-shirt and shorts) in school on those days.
  • Children take home reading books daily and parents are encouraged to make comments in their reading log books.
  • Children are welcome to bring in treats for their birthday but it is not expected. Please try to send healthy treats as far as possible.

Rules and Behaviour

We have a lot of fun in Reception but we expect the children to be well-behaved and adhere to the rules which we draw up as a class. Throughout the year we work alongside the children to develop their understanding of how their behaviour affects themselves and others.

Also…

The children will have the opportunity to share news and/or bring in items of interest from home. These times will be indicated by the class teacher and outside of these times bringing in toys from home should be discouraged.
