School Council 2011-12

Ridgefield Primary School has an active School Council that work on a range of exciting projects. Two children from every class of 5 to 11 year olds meet regularly to make our school better for everyone in it. Representing the children they solve problems sensibly and are responsible and caring.

Every September elections are held using the Cambridge City Council’s polling booths to elect a girl and boy representative and their reserves in case they can not attend a meeting. The School Council then elect four children to be the executive. The chairperson runs the meetings and tries to get everyone involved, assisted by the vice chairperson. The secretary writes about what happens in the meetings. The treasurer comes up with ideas how we can make money and looks after the accounts. There is also a link teacher, Ms Webb, who attends meetings but can not vote on decisions. Councillor Tariq Sadiq is the link governor. This year the school council will also be leading assemble every Tuesday, and be in charge of making Ridgefield a more eco-friendly school.

School Council projects to date include:-

Making an agreement with teachers that every class will go on a trip at least once a term

Organising the end of year talent show, Christmas and Easter competitions

Children in Need and Red nose Day Events

Bring and buy sale to raise money for school and the chosen charity

Improving school dinners

Campaigns reminding children to bring their PE kits

Getting permission for everyone to wear what they choose (not uniform) on the last day of every half term.
