We are Ridgefield

‘We are Ridgefield’ is an ongoing series of projects where we explore and celebrate our school identity through the metaphor of a tree, which is our school logo. We have some exciting events and projects planned for this year and we hope to revisit it every year, adding more understanding and meaning to our tree, and working together and with the local community to find out about our past, our values and our hopes and aspirations.

‘We Are Ridgefield’ events this year:

New School Song

Mrs Cooper has written the music and lyrics for a brand new school school which we will be learning during We are Ridgefield Week. It is called “We are Ridgefield” and is a perfect partner for our week, talking of our roots, value and hopes and aspirations! You can listen to it by clicking on the following link: We are Ridgefield School Song. You can also read the lyrics here.

Memory Box Project: 1st to the 14th March 2011

Click here to see the on-line exhibition of memory boxes

The Memory Box Project is a homework project for all our children, helping them to understand where they come from. We would like each child in the school to work together with their family to make a Memory Box. A memory box is a small box where you keep special items which have sentimental value, or tell a story. The Memory Box will be a great way for our children to learn about where they come from and will help them to share their stories with their classmates. Please could you send your memory boxes into school on the 14th March as we would like to look at them during ‘We are Ridgefield Week’. Each of our members of staff are going to be making memory boxes too, and we are hoping that we will be able to tell the story of Romsey and Sedley, our founding schools. We would love our Parents to come into school during ‘We are Ridgefield’ Week to share their memory boxes with their childrens. Times and details will follow shortly for visits. At the end of the project we would like to host all of the memory boxes on this web-site together with recordings of children talking about their memories. Please click on the flyer below for more information and ideas…anything is possible!

‘We are Ridgefield Week’ 14th to 18th March 2011

A special week in March where we will be exploring our own pasts and the history of the school. During the week each child will be sharing their memory box together with a parent of family member. We will also be inviting in governors, staff, local historians and members of the community as well as ex students and staff of Romsey and Sedley to share their own memories of the school. Each class will be reading origin myths and writing their very own origin myth for our Big Tree! We will be joined by the Mayor of Cambridge on the 18th March to see our Memory Boxes and hear our origin Myths.
